         - became an associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of New South                   Wales in Sydney

1965–1992  was chair of the ophthalmology division taking care of the teaching departments at the University of New South Wales, and the Prince of Wales and Prince Henry hospitals

1980  married to his second wife Gabi Hollows

1987 visit Eritrea

1989 diagnosed with cancer 

1990 was awarded The title of Australian of the Year
